New editions of the OUTLANDER audiobooks!

New OUTLANDER audiobook read by Kristin Atherton

A new unabridged audiobook edition of OUTLANDER, read by Kristin Atherton (who played the older Jenny in OUTLANDER Season 7) will be coming out on Tuesday, April 29! See the press release HERE for the official announcement.

The original unabridged audiobooks, read by Davina Porter, will still be available. (Look here for her version of OUTLANDER, for example.) But a new set of unabridged recordings of the OUTLANDER books will be released in the coming months, all narrated by Kristin Atherton.

Why are they doing this? As Diana Gabaldon explained on TheLitForum in a post from January 17, 2025:
Essentially, it's that Davina Porter has (at the age of 85) retired. She generously came out of retirement to read BEES, but there's no way she's doing Book Ten. Ergo, they had to find a new reader, and they have. Kristin Atherton (who played the mature version of Jenny Murray in the show <g>) will be doing Book Ten, and will also do the earlier books. Davina's versions will still be available, and people can enjoy whichever they like (or both).
Davina Porter is a wonderful narrator, and I've enjoyed listening to her version of the OUTLANDER audiobooks for many years. But none of us live forever, and at her age, she certainly deserves to enjoy her retirement! I've heard good things about Kristin Atherton as an audiobook narrator. I look forward to hearing her narration of Book 10 when the time comes.

You can pre-order the new audiobook of OUTLANDER on Amazon or Audible. The length of the recording says 21 hours 20 minutes, compared to 32 hours 38 minutes for Davina Porter's version. That surprised me. Assuming it's accurate, I suppose she just reads much faster than Davina!

Kristin Atherton's version of DRAGONFLY IN AMBER is also available for pre-order, with a release date of June 24, 2025. Total time for that one is listed as 25 hours 4 minutes. You can pre-order the new version of DRAGONFLY on Amazon or Audible.

Please spread the word to anyone you know who may be interested. Thanks!
