ANNOUNCEMENT

After giving it some thought, I have decided to discontinue the monthly polls on Outlandish Observations.

I first started posting these polls in November 2008. At this point, after more than 11 years of doing a poll every single month, they've become boring and repetitive (at least it seems that way to me), and the recent polls haven't generated much interest.

The other factor is that the first of the month is always my busiest time of the month at work. Collating and posting poll results, and getting the word out about the latest poll, takes some time and effort, as you can imagine. Doing all that adds a certain amount of stress to my life on a day that is ALWAYS extremely busy, and given the declining interest in these polls, it's become more of a chore for me than it should be.

So I think it's time to stop. I may still run a poll occasionally, but probably not as a regular monthly feature anymore.

I want to take this opportunity to say a heartfelt THANK YOU!! to everyone who's participated in these polls over the years. I appreciate it very much.

Comments

  1. Thank you Karen for all your hard work.
  2. I agree with your reaction to Episode 3. I wondered why they filmed the men hurrying as they left Fraser's Ridge and why they kept the "furry" comment when Roger was clearly clean-shaven. I also wondered why the writers chose to keep the Beardsley cabin scenes. It's not a sub-plot that is essential to the overall story. It certainly is quite affecting in the novel, but much of its power seemed lost in the film adaptation. Still, I can only imagine how difficult it is to make those sorts of plot decisions and then to try to render the scenes they keep with some fidelity to the novel.

Thank you Ms. Henry for all the work you do. I especially like the monthly lists with book references. They give me new insight into the story's patterns.
  3. Thank you for all the work you do for the Outlander fans. Since you are stopping the polls, I would like to make a suggestion, since it has been some time and there has been a huge amount of new readers/viewers could you repost some of your 'Friday Fun Facts'. I know you have them listed in your banner but now most won't know what they are. They are so beautifully done I think fans would enjoy seeing them again or for the first time.
  4. I'll miss the monthly poll, but did notice some recycling of earlier ones. I thought you came up with some fascinating data.

I second Suellen's request for an occasional Friday Fun Fact.

Do whatever you have to, to keep yourself interested in and enthusiastic about your Outlander gems for us.
