Diana Gabaldon has posted a very long and detailed analysis on Facebook on the topic of whether Jamie's encounter with Geneva in VOYAGER qualifies as rape. I would definitely encourage you to take a look at it.

  1. I have always wondered why Jamie's letters were not written in Gaelic while he lived at the Lake District as a prisoner (servant). The letter written by Jennie that Geneva held as blackmail was very dangerous not only for Jamie, but also his family back in Scotland. I understand that DG needed the letter for the story line, but I think Jamie and Jennie would have at least written in code if not in Gaelic.
  2. This storyline really surprised me. I had a hard time believing that Jamie would go through with this under any circumstances, but I have to accept Diana's explanation since she is the creator of the character. I was barely over this shock when I got to the "Daddy" chapter. I think that I actually yelled out loud when I read that one. Voyager was full of surprises for me. I could not put the book down because those 20 years apart from Claire were full of all sorts of experiences for Jamie.
  3. I have to admit that I was shocked by this situation. I could not believe that Jamie would go through with the act. I thought that he would find some last minute way out of the dilemma by perhaps talking Geneva out of it or that she would change her mind at the last minute . well, she actually did when she became uncomfortable and panicky , but Jamie, for whatever reason, continued. ..perhaps the law of inertia?? Since Diana is the author who has created these characters, only she knows their reasons, so I must accept her explanation of why Jamie did what he did.
  4. I just remembered that Claire greatly appreciated the featherbed from Jocasta and the buffalo robe that Jamie won playing cards. Both gifts of warmth.
