OUTLANDER on the cover of Entertainment Weekly!

Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe are on the cover of the current (March 4, 2016) issue of Entertainment Weekly!

I like this cover (except for that word "bodice-ripping"!) Some fans have objected to the blatant sexuality of it, but I don't have a problem with it. It's certainly eye-catching and provocative, and will doubtless sell tons of copies of the magazine.

Here's EW's photo gallery (definitely worth seeing -- the costumes are gorgeous!) and a brief article about OUTLANDER.

I haven't yet seen a copy of the actual magazine, but from what I understand, it includes an eight-page feature on OUTLANDER, with an interview with Diana Gabaldon and an excerpt from Book 9.

UPDATE: For Diana Gabaldon's reaction to the cover photo, look here.

  1. I don't have a problem with the picture either. We know that Jamie and Claire have a sexy relationship. My problem is is that the show is so much more then Jamie and Claire's sex. I know it will sell magazines, I know it will draw new fans, and that's good. My concern is that people who have never read the books, and don't really know what the show is about, will think that this is just another T & A show, like so many on TV, and we all know that that's not true. That's what bothers me the most.
  2. Hi Karen , wow! am looking forward to reading this will pick up my copy this weekend , I think the photos are beautiful , not tacky as some think they are , please post more soon, Happy Weekend. Sincerely Yours. Mary Tormey.
  3. Thank you, Karen. Thank you, Cait. Thank you, Sam. Beautiful people.

I have been reading the comments on CompuServe. I was a little surprised when I saw that cover, and I realize that we book readers feel verra protective of Our Jamie and Claire, but if we want more seasons of our favorite story on Starz, having more viewers will support that cause. Perhaps, people will see that cover , watch for the sexytimes, and discover the true love. ♥♥♥♥♥♥;)
  4. Enjoyed all the visuals however, couldn't help but notice Jamie's hand is miraculously cured in the magazine image.
  5. I had another look at the magazine cover this morning, and I wanted to make another comment. I have read a lot of negative comments about using sex to sell the series and Diana's comments about capturing the attention of potential viewers quickly. If you look at the cover, it is the pose that is provocative. However, all the naughty bits are covered except for a tiny part of Cait's bottom. The embrace shows protectiveness and love. Sam and Cait's gaze into the camera seems to say "What are you looking at ; why are you intruding ?".. Not " Hey, look at us;aren't we hot?" No cheeky smirks or sexy sneers. JMHO
  6. I have a memory of Diana saying that she put a 'bodice rip' into every book as a inside joke for herself, but people don't notice. I can't remember where I saw this though to check.

I love the cover and people who think it is smut or porn don't really know what porn is then!
